What is your first impression at the sound or site of the word Classy, or Classy Woman?
I was first introduced to this term on social media, which has an obvious pattern of elaborating a classy woman as a stuck-up rebel in expensive apparel, wearing sexy shoes.
She is usually wearing sunglasses sitting with her legs crossed holding a glass of wine saying things that go something like this:
“I compete with no one, if what I do threatens you, that YOUR problem!”
“Queens don’t compete with hoes”
“Honey, I got heels higher than your standards”
“Make your parents proud, your enemies jealous and yourself happy”
“Sorry hun, but unlike you, I’m not a doorknob where everyone gets a tum. I’m more of a casino where only the lucky ones hit the jackpot”
You get the idea.
Meanwhile i’m over here like: “Ooh! You’re such a sparkplug, you!”🤗
Whoever defined this as a “classy” attitude? Sounds entitled and snobby to me.
What is YOUR definition of a classy woman??
For me, it has got to do with a lot more than modesty, high heels and independence!
Let’s see how the Bible defines a woman of class and how we can pursue her virtues while walking in silence!
-She knows how to control herself (Titus 2:3)
-She takes care of her home and makes it hospitable (Proverbs 31:27)
-She is a good example to other women (Esther 2:15)
-She has a kind heart (Titus 2:5)
-She honors her husband and has respect for him (Ephesians 5:22-23)
-She doesn’t bash others, spread gossip, use vulgar language or engage with fools (Proverbs 31:26)
-She follows the Word, not the world! (Luke 1:38)
-She generously works hard and makes sacrifices (Ruth 2:17)
-She is not vain. She is dresses modestly and adorns herself with virtues (1 Timothy 2:9)
-She uplifts her lifetime companion and builds his self-esteem (Proverbs 12:13)
-She gets her hands dirty for others and doesn’t care or boast about it (Proverbs 31:20)
-She is educated and wise (Proverbs 20:21)
-She’s gracious and respectable. She retains her honor (Proverbs 11:16)
-She’s not a nagger (Proverbs 21:19)
-She knows how to be discrete (Proverbs 11:22)
How’s that for classy?
Someone who is generous, humble and uplifting as well as desiring the best for others no matter what has been thrown her way, a woman who, having a comeback for anything said to/about her, knows when to stay quiet.
THAT, is a Woman of grace and class!
Not a spiteful, entitled, arrogant girl who can’t get over herself.
The Lord is all for self-love, and valuing who you are. But when you’re repeatedly addressing your “haters” on social media, wanting your “enemies” to see how “badass” you are, in order to measure and feel that sense of worth, then I would be counting my blessings and the qualities of other fellow women.
There’s the girl that mocks another’s crown in an attempt to make her own shine, and there is the Woman who wholeheartedly helps fix her fellow sister’s crown without telling the world all about it.
Which one do you want to be?
How can you actively pursue genuine grace and class as we elaborated today?
